What does Maelstrom mean? A large, tumultuous, restless whirlpool, which transcribed into music, is exactly what Twenty-nine year old Glaswegian Paul Gordon aka Maelstrom is, and more. He first came to prominence with the now infamous reworking of Metro Area’s seminal Miura, and quickly gained support from the likes of Todd Terje and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy for his debut production.

Receiving such high profile plaudits gave Maelstrom a taste of production success, and the drive to unleash some more of his acid disco excursions
onto the public. Maelstrom was quickly signed up by the revered Belgian imprint Eskimo Recordings where his music sat perfectly alongside the likes
of Aeroplane, Peter Visti and, of course, Lindstrom and Prins Thomas. His knack for cleverly crafting edits has also grown with releases on Mindless Boogie, Beard Science and his own Solardisco label, which has seen him
being touted as one of the hottest producers in the acid disco scene.

Originally set up as a vehicle for his own productions, 2009 will see Solardisco go in to overdrive with releases and remixes from the likes of Ilija Rudman, Sankt Goran, Blackbelt Andersen, Brendon Moeller, Runaway and Nick Chacona to name but a few (all tracks are available for third party licensing).

Maelstrom the DJ, has recently played in gigs in Stockholm, Athens, Dublin, London (including Horse Meat Disco) and as far afield as Vilnius in Lithuania
– with many more planned for 2009 – again he has been labelled as the best emerging DJ talent from the leftfield disco scene.
